The Side Effects of Stress…What Your Parents Never Taught You
What your parents never taught you about the side effects of stress is that it costs nothing to stop it, and everything to live with it. Is stress stopping you from performing to your fullest potential at work? How about as a working parent? Is it affecting your ability to perform intimately? Perhaps you are a college student that is currently experiencing heightened levels of stress? If you resonate with any of these scenarios I encourage you to observe the commentary going on in your mind. Are you even aware of the mental noise? Sometimes there is so much chatter going on that it becomes a constant background static that you grow accustomed to.
Three Ways to Stop Stress Completely
- Tune out the Mental Noise
- Stay Present
Disengage with the mental dialogue, because it will never bring you peace. Rather be in acceptance of what is, at this very moment, and say yes to it. This will bring you into presence. Stress is mental, just as suffering is mental. No matter what you feel is putting you over the edge, remember that these are all life situations that are transient. They will come and go. Nothing is forever and everything is for a while. And how you choose to deal with a current life situation must come from a state of presence where the chatter in the mind is completely shut off and whats left is pure consciousness. In that state of pure consciousness is where alchemy happens. Tune out the mental noise that is stopping you from performing to your fullest potential and unlock the magic with you.
“Stress, worry, and fear do not exist in the present moment.”
30 Second Stress Release
Your meditation practice need not take up blocks of time in your day. As you become clear in your mind and understand the fundamentals about meditation, you will be able to stop and ground yourself any time of day, no matter where you are and no matter what you are doing. It can take as little as thirty seconds to release stress. When stress starts knocking, don’t open the door. Instead, go to your quiet space between thoughts that can only be described as presence. When you are in that space of complete presence, breathe. Focus on the breath. There you will know that there is nothing really to worry about in the present moment and stress will flee. It must flee because it only exists in the thinking mind which is always an illusion. When you allow the thinking to come to a complete stop, all that is left is the reality of your breath in that moment.
Choose whatever works for you, but don’t get caught up in methodology. Remember, the goal is to become present, fully conscious, and free of thought. We can’t stop thoughts from entering the mind, but we can stop what we choose to believe as truth, and begin making conscious decisions throughout your day. That said, can you see how meditating as a state of being will release your stress?
“You have the power to release the things in your life that no longer serves you.”
As you begin to experience meditation as a state of being, you will learn how to tune out the mental noise throughout your day. You will begin to observe the chatter in the mind and suddenly realize that the constant static you were so accustomed to no longer serves you. In fact, it is what fueled your stress in the first place. You have the magic within you to release the things in life that no longer serve you. To stop stress completely, you will need to stay present.
Train Your Mind To Stop The Stress
Train your mind as you would a puppy. Every time you observe it going into “over-thinking” mode which is a huge stress factor, tell your mind “No. Be still. Stop the chatter.” It will take time to train your mind to bring the mental noise to a complete stop, but the rewards will be great. Eventually, you will have trained your mind to flow in synch with your body and spirit. This body, mind, and spirit functionality will serve your higher Self.
As you turn away from stress onto the powerful path of peace, know that you do not have to sacrifice peace for success. The most successful people on the planet experience tremendous peace within. That is how they got there!
